apan-IDB Scholarship Program

The Integration and Trade Sector manage the Japan Scholarship Program. Since its establishment in 1991, the Program gives scholarship to students from the Bank's borrowing member countries to pursue Master degree's studies atthe most prestigious universitiesaround the world in disciplines related to economic development.

Since the beginning of the Program, more than 620 scholarships have been granted to women and men from Latin America and the Caribbean who have now returned to their countries of origin. The selection process is highly competitive since we receive more applications than the number of scholarships that we are able to grant.

These scholarships, financed by the generous contribution of the Japanese Government, seek to train people who have experience in the public sector and/or academia and intend to return to their countries to work in the same area. Upon completion of the study program, the only requirement of the Scholarship Program is that the students must work in their countries of origin for at least two years.

We have held Alumni Meetings in different countries of the regionover the past years. It is a great pleasure towitness how these scholarships have helped the recipients improve their professional careers and contribute to the development of their countries.
